What’s the difference between TaxValet and software?
This is a question we get a lot. It’s kind of like asking the difference between buying Quickbooks and hiring a bookkeeper. There are many great tools out there to help you do-it-yourself, but one common trap that online businesses make is not realizing that these are tools. Like any tool, you need to know how to use it, and have sufficient time to do the required work. (And you know what they say … if you don’t know how to use the tool, then you are the tool!)
One common mistake businesses make is signing up for a sales tax software tool, failing to recognize the amount of time that is needed to do the work each month. Frequently the DIYer will get permits in wrong states, use incorrect start dates, process the data incorrectly, or commit some other egregious sales tax sin which is ultimately time consuming and expensive to fix. If you get software and do-it-yourself tread carefully!
