Texas has announced a sales tax amnesty program running until June 29th, 2018. Businesses are eligible if they did not file for periods before January 1st, 2018, or if they underreported taxes or fees due for any reason. Businesses that have been audited are not eligible for the amnesty program.
The amnesty application must be submitted by June 29th, 2018 and waives all penalties and interest before January 1st, 2018. Businesses must pay the original sales tax due.
How do I apply for the amnesty program?
Businesses must file an original paper return and write “Amnesty” across the top of the return, and on the check or money order. If you are amending a return, submit the corrected figures on a paper return and write “Amnesty” across the top. If you are registering for a sales tax permit at the same time, use the paper application and write “Amnesty” across the top.
You can find details on the official Amnesty website here. Tax forms are also available on the Texas Comptroller website here.
