TaxValet's Operational Standards for Civil Rights and Accountability

Written by Laura May | Mar 9, 2026 1:30:00 PM

At TaxValet, we believe a business should be a reflection of the world it wants to see. That’s why, as a Certified B Corp, our responsibility includes our people, our communities, and the broader systems we inhabit.

When we witness actions that harm human dignity, civil rights, or the safety of vulnerable communities, we believe it is our responsibility to respond. We base our actions strictly on integrity and accountability.

TaxValet's Core Commitments

Our response to public harm is guided by four core commitments:

  • Prioritize human dignity and basic rights above all else.

  • Lead with kindness, clarity, and care in every interaction.

  • Make values-aligned decisions regarding partnerships and public commitments.

  • Protect internal trust, privacy, and psychological safety for our team.

Taking a Stand: TaxValet's Actions

We set firm boundaries to protect our mission and our people. We put our principles into practice through the following actions:

What We Are Doing

  • Vetting Partnerships: We ensure all vendors and partners align with our standards before initiating a relationship, and we require continued alignment over time.

  • Addressing Violations: If we discover a violation of these standards, we address the issue directly to determine if the business relationship can continue.

  • Financial Commitment: We donate 1% of TaxValet’s profits to organizations providing critical support to impacted communities.

  • Advocacy: We actively support the B Lab movement and sign formal petitions to uphold civil and constitutional rights.

  • Service: We offer free or reduced-cost tax services to non-profit organizations.

  • Volunteer Time Off (VTO): We provide employees 3 VTO days per year. They may use this time for community service or to participate in non-violent protests against the harms listed above.

What We Are Not Doing

  • Surveillance: We respect privacy. We evaluate public actions and business practices rather than investigating the private lives of our partners or employees.

  • Ideological Purity Tests: We evaluate systemic impact and concrete business actions rather than personal political leanings.
