How to Sign In and File a Return on New Jersey’s Website

Step 1: The first step to file and pay your New Jersey sales tax return is to log into https://www1.state.nj.us/TYTR_BusinessFilings/jsp/common/Login.jsp?taxcode=55

If you do not have login information, you can click on “Get Started on New Jersey’s Business Registration page and then follow the instructions for signing up.   

Step 2: Once you are logged in, you will need to select the return you intend to file. In this case, we are filing the ST-50 Quarterly Return.  Then scroll down to the bottom of the page to select the month and year of the return. Click “Submit.”

Step 3: Enter your sales information. Enter the amounts to the nearest dollar (no cents) on lines 1 and 2. If you made any pre-payments to the state, enter that amount on line 9. Once you are finished, click “Calculate.”
Step 4: It is time to review. If your figures look correct you are ready to submit your return. If not click “Reset” and make corrections.

Once you submit the return, you will be directed to make a payment if you owe anything.

Hooray!  You have now filed your return.

How to Pay New Jersey’s Sales Tax

Now that you have filed your sales tax return, it is time to make your payment. To get started go back to the “Sales and Use Tax Processing Center.” This time you are going to choose the payment option you would like to pay your return with. Then choose the month and year and submit.

Next, you will choose the payment method (Electronic Check used here) and enter the amount due.

The next screen will ask for your company information and your banking information. Once you have correctly entered your information, click “Submit.”

Success! You have now filed and paid your sales tax return to the state of New Jersey.  Please do make sure to save/print a copy of the confirmation screen.

 

Things to Consider After Filing a Sales Tax Return in New Jersey

If you forgot to print or save your return, you still can! To print or save your return go back to the “Sales and Use Tax Processing Center.” Click on “File Quarterly Return, ST-50 / View ST-50 filed using File Online system.” Enter the month and year you want to view then select print.
